Tempo fa nella recensione del disco di Joey Bada$$, avevo esordito con un incipit del tipo:
-“Che poi BED-STUY non lo troverei mai sulla cartina di Brooklyn in NYC!!! ma se dovessi chiedere indicazioni su come arrivarci, qualsiasi newyorkese sarebbe capace di rispondermi e mi direbbe: yeah, Tak’ the A or C  and go dow’ in Bedford Avenue, Nostrand Avenue and Stuyvesant Avenue, SONN!!c’n!!It’s BED STUY, DO OR DIE!!Losser. Ok quindi “Bed Stuy” in gergo newyorkese è il quartiere Bedford–Stuyvesant, ma tutta questa “prefazione” però ci fa capire che il posto è senza dubbio speciale. Le case, i palazzi, le persone, la luce sono completamente diversi da qualsiasi altro posto al modo. “-.
Ieri nel mercatino del vinile di Avellino mi sono imbattuto nella colonna sonora del film “Do The Right Thing”, diretto da… anzi no’, usiamo lo slang del posto:-  a SPIKE LEE joint. Proprio quest’ultimo ha filmato più e più volte questa parte di New York City. Il film ha un magnifico Samuel L. Jackson nel ruolo di Mister Señor Love Daddy, conduttore radiofonico della stazione FM 108 :

Nel film appare anche il  WE LOVE (Jingle): “FROM THE HOODDD OFFF BEDDDD-stuyyyy” che è stato campionato nel  bellissimo pezzo di SPEC BOOGIE nella nostra “Track Of The Day”.
Inoltre nel film appare anche Bill Nunn che interpreta “RADIO RAHEEM”  in un dialogo storico sempre molto attuale che spiega la storia dell’ AMORE contro L’ODIO: Let me tell you the story of Right Hand, Left Hand. It’s a tale of good and evil. Hate: it was with this hand that Cane iced his brother. Love: these five fingers, they go straight to the soul of man. The right hand: the hand of love. The story of life is this: static. One hand is always fighting the other hand, and the left hand is kicking much ass. I mean, it looks like the right hand, Love, is finished. Da questo dialogo scegliamo anche il meraviglioso brano dei Brand Nubian con LOVE vs Hate dal disco Fondation.
La cosa più sconvolgente è che questo quartiere ha dato vita a delle vere e proprie leggende. Ah! mi sono dimenticato di dirvi che qui si parla solo RAP/HIP-HOP ! e la creatività di ogni ragazzo o persona è “no control”. Non vi sto parlando di Brooklyn ma proprio di quel pezzetto di terra dentro “Broo” che ha dato i natali a: Big Daddy Kane, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-z, Mos Def, Aaliyah, Norah Jones, Foxy Brown, Lil’ Kim, Masta Ace, Talib Kweli, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Skyzoo, Oddisee, Souce Money, Tek (one half of Smif-N-Wessun), Papoose, Mike Tayson, Jackie Robinson, (1919-1972, professional baseball player with the Brooklyn Dodgers, First Black Man in the league) Chris Rock (actor/comedian), Connie Hawkins (Basketball Hall of Fame player), Bobby Fischer World Chess Champion e, bastano??
